Three men were killed across Prince George's County on Thursday, Oct. 29, and by that afternoon homicide detectives were working three separate investigations into a stabbing, a shooting and a death in a wooded park. No arrests had been announced in the department's Thursday updates.
The first call came at about 4:15 a.m. Officers arriving at a residence in the 9900 block of 51st Terrace in College Park found 26-year-old Jose Edin Hernandez Vasquez with critical stab wounds. He lived in College Park and died at the scene.
An hour later, at about 5:15 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Belle Haven Drive in Landover. Officers found a man with gunshot wounds lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities said they were working to notify his family before releasing his identity.
The third case remains open on several points. Police confirmed an adult man was found in a wooded area of a local park, but did not disclose where the discovery was made, how he died or when he was found.
Police Chief George Nader addressed the three deaths together in a statement Thursday. "Behind every homicide is a life lost, a family grieving, and a community forever changed," Nader said. "Even one murder is one too many."
The killings arrived as the county's homicide numbers had been moving the other direction. Heading into Thursday, Prince George's County had recorded 33 percent fewer murders than at the same point last year, with the total down 55 percent compared to 2024, and investigators had closed roughly 79 percent of the county's homicide cases this year. Police say there is no evidence the three incidents are connected and investigators believe each was isolated and not random. Investigators were still working to identify suspects and determine motives. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit at 301-516-2512.
