Demari Brown, 21, of Montgomery Village, was sentenced on Monday, November 2, to 45 years in prison for the first-degree murder of Henry Krishawn Gilbert. The sentence, which suspends all but 45 years of a life term, follows Brown's guilty plea in March to the execution-style killing of the 20-year-old man.

The murder occurred during a robbery that prosecutors say Brown and Jorden Hungerford, 20, orchestrated. Investigators determined that Hungerford used a female friend's Instagram account to contact Gilbert. Gilbert, who recognized the account as belonging to an acquaintance, agreed to sell a half-ounce of marijuana for $75 on the morning of April 26, 2025. He drove his green Honda Civic to Brookridge Court in Gaithersburg, expecting to meet the woman or her cousin.

Surveillance footage captured Hungerford entering the passenger seat of Gilbert's car while Brown approached the driver's side window. An argument ensued, and Hungerford began to exit the vehicle when a single gunshot rang out. Both men fled the scene, leaving Gilbert at the wheel. Police and firefighters found the Honda crashed into the side of a townhouse minutes later, its engine still running. Gilbert had been shot in the head and died at the scene.

After the shooting, Hungerford contacted a witness via FaceTime. The witness reported that Hungerford was sweating and admitted that some "wild s, t" had happened. Investigators say Hungerford later told the witness to delete their conversations. Brown also allegedly called the witness from an unfamiliar number, threatening to come after them if they spoke about the killing.

A witness told detectives that Hungerford had previously admitted to using the Instagram account because he wanted to "bag" someone, a slang term for robbing a victim. The witness said they had specifically warned Hungerford not to hurt Gilbert. An anonymous tip later identified Brown, known as "Tall," as having bragged about shooting someone over marijuana.

Brown will also serve five years of supervised probation upon his release. Hungerford was convicted by a jury in May of first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He faces the possibility of life in prison plus an additional 60 years.

Hungerford returns to court on Friday, November 6, for his sentencing hearing.
