Aaron Tart, a resident of Atco, has been formally charged in connection with the fatal crash that killed Maksudur Rahman in Voorhees. Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay and Voorhees Police Chief April Herrington announced the charges on Thursday. Tart faces three counts: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, and tampering with evidence.
The incident occurred at 1:17 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Voorhees police responded to the 100 block of North Route 73 after a report of a collision involving a bicyclist. Officers found Rahman lying unresponsive in the roadway. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities determined that two separate vehicles struck Rahman before fleeing the location.
Police identified Tart as the driver of the first vehicle, a Ford Fusion. Following the impact, Tart covered the car with a tarp and later replaced the windshield. The second vehicle involved was described as a dark-colored midsize SUV. Detectives continue to seek public information regarding this second driver.
Rahman worked as a dishwasher at Harmony Diner in Voorhees. He commuted to and from the job by bicycle. His son, Mahmudur Rahman, told CBS Philadelphia that his father had cycled to work regularly. Serkan Bagcivan, the owner of Harmony Diner, stated that Rahman had been employed at the location for 10 years. Bagcivan described him as a dedicated employee who frequently checked on patrons.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Voorhees Police Department have asked residents to review any video footage or knowledge of the dark SUV. Witnesses can contact Detective Samuel Funches III of the Crash Response Investigation Team at (856) 614-8083 or Officer Joe Kavano at (856) 882-1146.
