Norway’s national tourism board launched a promotional campaign on Thursday featuring the country’s most scenic public restrooms. The initiative follows remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday in which he referred to the Nordic nation as a 'sh*t house country.'

Trump made the comments while campaigning ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. He stated that he would welcome immigrants from several nations but not Norway because he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He added, 'Norway has become a sh*t house country, actually.'

Visit Norway responded by publishing an online article asking if these are the world's best sh*t houses. The tourist board posted images to social media this week, acknowledging the noise about the label. They wrote, 'What can we say, we do have some of the world's most beautiful and spectacular toilets.'

The campaign displays photos and video of specific facilities with captions that read, 'Norway makes sh*thouses great again.' The text notes that these toilets are worth visiting whether a person needs to use them or not. The board describes the featured restrooms as architectural masterpieces.

One featured location is the bathroom at the Stegastein viewpoint in the Sognefjord region. The tourist board said DesignCurial described this facility as one of the ten best public toilets in the world. The campaign also highlights the wave-shaped Ureddplassen restroom on the Helgeland coast.

Other structures included in the portfolio are a golden bathroom on the island of Senja and a solar-powered facility in the Sognefjord area. The website promises more impressive restrooms are under construction. It concludes by stating that Norway’s collection shows how a loo can become a tourist attraction.

Trump previously called Haiti, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen sh*t house countries. His comments on Norway appear linked to the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Navi Pillay earlier this month. Norwegians have frequently reminded the U.S. president that an independent committee, rather than the Norwegian government, selects the prize winner.
