Meta Platforms announced Monday that it plans to raise up to $95 billion to fund the expansion of its artificial intelligence operations. The company, headquartered in Menlo Park, California, said the money would support data centers, advanced computer chips and other technology required to build AI systems.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has launched approximately $35 billion in public offerings involving common and preferred shares. Meta also intends to establish a separate program allowing it to sell up to $60 billion in additional stock. That second offering is expected to follow the introduction of Meta's new non-voting Class C shares, which could begin trading in early 2027.
Meta recently projected between $135 billion and $145 billion in capital expenditures for 2026. The spending covers constructing and operating data centers, securing computing power and expanding the company's artificial intelligence capabilities.
The fundraising follows a difficult period for Meta shares, which declined after the company's latest earnings report. Investors are watching how Meta plans to balance infrastructure spending, borrowing and shareholder dilution as it pursues its artificial intelligence strategy.
Meta is facing increased scrutiny from investors over whether its spending will generate enough revenue to cover the costs. The company's announcement comes as competition among major technology companies building artificial intelligence systems continues to grow.
President Donald Trump spoke with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the White House on September 29, 2026, following a luncheon for tech leaders in the East Room.
