Alton Junior, 42, of Newburgh, pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to charges related to a drug investigation that began in July. District Attorney David Hoovler announced the plea on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The case traces back to Tuesday, July 7, when authorities executed a search warrant at Junior’s apartment at 15 Colden St., Apt. 219. Investigators were examining fentanyl and cocaine trafficking in Orange County at the time.
Officers found two loaded handguns and over four ounces of cocaine in the unit. They also seized more than half an ounce of fentanyl and over $5,000 in cash. A digital scale and materials for packaging drugs were present as well.
Junior entered a guilty plea to second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He also admitted to second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors noted that Junior was on federal and Orange County probation at the time of the raid.
The plea agreement sets a sentence of nine years in state prison. That term will be followed by five years of post-release supervision. Junior is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 22.
