The Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale opened two new exhibits on Thursday, focusing on environmental resilience and meteorological science. The new installations include a dedicated storm center and an interactive ecosystem display designed for families.

The first exhibit, titled “Build a Better World: The Future Begins With You,” allows children and families to explore methods for supporting healthier ecosystems. According to museum CEO Joe Cox, the display teaches visitors how to help communities withstand environmental impacts such as heat and flooding.

The second installation is a fully equipped storm center developed in partnership with Florida Power & Light. This exhibit provides guests with a behind-the-scenes look at the science, technology, and decision-making processes used by forecasters and officials to predict severe weather conditions.

Baldwyn English, a representative for FPL, stated that the company is proud to extend its commitment to innovating and inspiring the next generation over the coming years. The partnership marks a multi-year effort to integrate energy and weather education into the museum experience.

The storm center also features a depiction of the local 7News weather center. This area allows younger guests to imagine themselves as meteorologists. 7News meteorologists Phil Ferro and Vivian Gonzalez attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening.
