A new orthodontic practice has opened at 2 South Summit Avenue in Hackensack, offering residents a local option for braces and aligner treatment. Schames Orthodontics officially opens to the public in November, but the office is already accepting appointments for complimentary consultations.
Dr. Scott Schames, the practice’s founder, previously worked in Monroe. He relocated his career to the Hackensack area after meeting his wife, a Teaneck resident. Dr. Schames stated he wanted a practice closer to home where he could see patients around town and build relationships that extended beyond the office walls.
The practice offers traditional metal braces, less noticeable ceramic braces, and clear aligners. Dr. Schames designs a personalized treatment plan for every patient, whether they are a child visiting for the first time, a teenager starting braces, or an adult seeking correction later in life. He noted that no two smiles are identical and that treatment should reflect individual goals and concerns.
To accommodate busy families, the office provides Sunday appointments. Dr. Schames explained that taking time off work or pulling a child out of school is often difficult. He added that Sunday visits make the process less stressful for patients who have packed weekday schedules.
Dr. Schames emphasized the importance of patient comfort, particularly for children who may feel nervous about unfamiliar procedures. He said he wants kids to be excited about coming in and to know the staff will take good care of them. He believes a friendly atmosphere helps ensure the entire experience is positive.
The doctor originally comes from Los Angeles and earned his degree in San Francisco. He completed his specialty training in orthodontics in Atlanta. He moved to the Bergen County area to be near his wife and began building his career locally after years of experience in the field.
Dr. Schames shared that he enjoys getting to know his patients over the course of their treatment. He said he does not want anyone to feel like just another patient. He wants them to feel like part of the family, known and comfortable in the office.
The practice is located at 2 South Summit Avenue in Hackensack. Individuals can schedule a complimentary consultation by visiting schamesortho.com, calling (201) 992-0300, or emailing the office directly.
