Lidl is selling a pre-packaged Thanksgiving meal for 10 people at $34.40. The promotion is available at the discount supermarket chain from Wednesday, Nov. 11, through Wednesday, Nov. 25.

The bundle is designed to cover the main components of a traditional holiday dinner. It includes a 14-pound frozen turkey, 5 pounds of russet potatoes, and 3 pounds of sweet potatoes. The kit also contains 3 pounds of yellow onions, 2 pounds of baby carrots, and one package of celery. Shoppers receive two boxes of stuffing mix, two packets of gravy mix, and two cans of green beans.

Additional items in the basket include two cans of cream of mushroom soup, one package of fried onions, and two cans of cranberry sauce. The meal kit provides one package of Hawaiian sweet rolls, two boxes of macaroni and cheese, and one can of pumpkin. For the dessert course, the bundle includes one package of pie crust dough, one can of evaporated milk, one container of whipped topping, and one package of mini marshmallows. The kit also contains one container of chicken broth and one container of poultry seasoning.

Jassine Ouali, the company's chief customer officer, said the deal reflects the chain's focus on value. "Thanksgiving is about bringing people together, and we believe families deserve more to value, more food, more savings, and more confidence in the prices they pay," Ouali said. The company is positioning itself as a fresh discount grocer that helps families celebrate.

To qualify for the $34.40 price, customers must be members of the Lidl Plus loyalty program. The retailer also stated it will match the comparable total price of similar Thanksgiving deals offered by Aldi and Walmart. This price-match policy applies to the specific items included in the Lidl bundle.

All Lidl employees will receive a free turkey in addition to the standard 10% employee discount. The company operates more than 200 supermarkets, all of which will close on Thanksgiving Day.

The promotion arrives as inflation continues to affect consumer spending. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that consumer prices rose 3.7% in the 12 months ending in September. Turkey prices increased 8.4% during that period, a rate that far exceeded the 2.5% rise in overall food costs. Other major retailers, including BJ's, Costco, Price Chopper, Price Rite, Sam's Club, and Wegmans, are running similar holiday promotions.
