The Milwaukee Brewers captured their first World Series title on Wednesday by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays. The victory marks a historic milestone for the franchise, which has never won the championship before. Colton Gordon, a former player for the Israel national team, appeared in one game during the season. That single appearance qualifies him for a championship ring. He was present in the dugout for the final game.
The celebration highlights the legacy of Bud Selig, the former owner and current commissioner emeritus. A statue of Selig stands outside American Family Field in Milwaukee. The end of the World Series opens the offseason immediately. The league faces a potential lockout when the collective bargaining agreement expires at midnight on December 1.
Awards voting continues during the break. Alex Bregman of the Chicago Cubs is a finalist for the National League Gold Glove at third base. He won the American League version of the award in 2024 with Houston. Max Fried, a four-time winner, did not make the cut this year. Bregman also remains a candidate for the Silver Slugger and possibly MVP votes. He hit 19 home runs and drove in 52 runs after the All-Star break. Joc Pederson of the Texas Rangers is a contender for Comeback Player of the Year. He hit 26 home runs with an .816 OPS this season, his best offensive output since 2019.
Free agency decisions are pending. Pederson holds a mutual option for $18.5 million with the Rangers. If either side declines, he enters the free agent market. Rowdy Tellez is also a free agent after spending most of the year in Triple-A and playing in three playoff games for Atlanta.
In hockey, the St. Louis Blues reacted to fan signs displayed at a game last week. The signs read "Israel Kills" and "Free America from Israel." The team condemned the display, and owner Tom Stillman called the messages vile and unforgivable. In soccer, Liel Abada of Charlotte FC scored a hat trick in 18 minutes on Wednesday. His team won 4-0 to secure a playoff spot. Idan Toklomati assisted on one goal. Abada praised Toklomati as a great player and a good friend.
