Downtown Milwaukee closed its main thoroughfares on Friday to accommodate an estimated 400,000 spectators celebrating the city's first World Series title in 44 years. Milwaukee Public Schools canceled classes for the day, freeing students and families to join the crowd that filled streets, parking structures, and office windows. The event marked the culmination of a season that ended with the Brewers defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday, clinching the series in five games.

The franchise has played in the World Series only once before, in 1982. That team, featuring Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers, Robin Yount, and Paul Molitor, lost the series to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Members of that 1982 roster rode along the Friday parade route, posing for photos with fans who were largely born after their last major appearance in the Fall Classic.

The current squad, including manager Pat Murphy and owner Mark Attanasio, traveled by bus to the park. The vehicles displayed banners reading "Won. Our Way," a variation on the team's earlier postseason slogan. Players such as outfielder Sal Frelick and second baseman Brice Turang removed their shirts in reference to the league's "Tarps Off" tradition while waving to the crowd. Staff members, including the grounds crew and the racing Johnsonville sausages, also participated in the procession.

Fans expressed decades of anticipation for the moment. Mark Diedrich, 76, a part-time season ticket holder since the 1980s, described the victory as unbelievable. He noted that he and his son Kasey owned seats at the old Milwaukee County Stadium where Robin Yount hit his 3,000th home run in 1992. Kasey Diedrich, who attended his first game as a four-year-old in 1983, said the achievement feels like a dream. Craig Muehl, 42, from Brookfield, said he brought his young children to the parade, continuing a family tradition of listening to Brewers games on the radio.

Celebrations began before Friday. Team captain Christian Yelich and pitcher Jacob Misiorowski visited Lambeau Field for the Green Bay Packers game on Thursday night. The crowd gave a loud ovation when Brandon Woodruff entered the field in the second quarter holding the Commissioner's Trophy. Frelick performed a successful leap into the crowd, and players later appeared on the stadium video board wearing cheeseheads labeled "2026 WS Champions."

The parade route passed a mural of broadcaster Bob Uecker before ending at Henry Maier Festival Park near Lake Michigan. A large police presence managed traffic and crowds throughout the event. The Brewers franchise began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and moved to Milwaukee the following year. The city previously celebrated a World Series victory in 1957 with the Milwaukee Braves, who later relocated to Atlanta in 1966.
