A 37-year-old man from Hughesville was arrested after Spotsylvania County deputies used their patrol cars to stop his vehicle on Halloween night.
The incident began shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Deputies received a call about a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian at Indian Acres, located at 6437 Morris Road. They found the victim on site, and the person suffered minor injuries. Officers quickly spotted the suspect vehicle still parked inside the community grounds.
Drew Mason, 37, drove away when deputies attempted to pull him over. The chase took place during heavy traffic as families left the area after trick-or-treating. Cars were lined up along the road, creating congestion for the responding officers. To end the pursuit, deputies made contact with the rear bumper of Mason's car. Another deputy positioned a cruiser in front to block the vehicle's path.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office stated that no one was seriously injured during the stop. Mason was charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence, open container, and domestic assault and battery. He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.
