Angel Canales, a 21-year-old from Silver Spring, died after being thrown from his car in a single-vehicle crash near Randolph Road and Bluhill Road. Montgomery County Police confirmed his identity on Monday, November 2, following the accident that occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 31.
Investigators report that Canales was driving a gray 1990 Honda Civic westbound on Randolph Road when he lost control. The specific cause of the loss of control is still under investigation. The vehicle struck a curb and overturned, slamming into a utility pole. The impact forced Canales out of the car.
First responders worked to save Canales at the scene, but he was pronounced dead. An adult male passenger was also in the car. He sustained serious injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The collision brought down power lines, requiring authorities to close Randolph Road in both directions while emergency crews worked at the scene. The crash disrupted traffic in the area until the road was reopened.
The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into what caused the driver to lose control. Officials stated that the inquiry could take several weeks or several months to finish. Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call investigators at 240-773-6620.
