A 62-year-old Secaucus man died inside his vehicle in a parking garage on Nov. 1, and police arrested a 28-year-old man from Connecticut who was caught with the victim's credit cards.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 200 Mill Creek Drive around 7:48 a.m. Sunday. The victim’s 2026 Hyundai Elantra was parked in the deck with its door ajar. Inside, officers found the man’s body. Detectives from the Secaucus Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Squad investigated the scene. Miller stated that foul play is not suspected at this time, but the Regional Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the cause and manner of death.

At 11:02 a.m., Officer Jonathan Padron saw a man matching the suspect's description on Lighting Way, directly across the street from the garage. The man, identified as Quashawn Clayton of Hartford, ignored Padron’s order to stop. Clayton ran, and police caught him near 100 Lighting Way. Officers found Clayton carrying the deceased man's credit cards.

Clayton faces charges of burglary, theft of movable property, credit card theft, obstruction of the administration of law, and failure to report a death. He is currently lodged in the Hudson County Jail. Miller thanked the person who reported the crime in progress, noting that the caller did not just pass by. The investigation into the death is ongoing.

Charges are accusations, and Clayton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
