HARFORD COUNTY, Md. A crash at the intersection of Jarrettsville Pike and Hess Road on the night of Halloween resulted in the deaths of a local couple and sent a teenager to the hospital.

Maryland State Police reported that Kimberly Anne Miller, 60, and Brian Walter Miller, 61, both of Fallston, died at the scene. A third occupant, Matthew Thomson Howard Waylett, 19, of Monkton, survived the impact and was transported by helicopter to a trauma center. Officials have not yet released an update on Waylett's condition.

The collision occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Police said Kimberly Miller was driving a Volvo XC60 eastbound on Hess Road with Brian Miller as her passenger. Waylett was operating a Volkswagen Passat southbound on Jarrettsville Pike when the two vehicles collided. Emergency medical personnel pronounced both Millers dead at the scene.

Investigators are currently analyzing whether speed played a part in the accident. Authorities have not identified which driver, if either, was exceeding the speed limit. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

The intersection remained closed for more than three hours while investigators examined the site. The Harford County Sheriff's Office and state highway officials assisted with the traffic control and scene management during the shutdown.
